Cool Tools for Schools- The Music Links
Here is a great site that will link you to music sites and programs that will allow you to do everything from compose music to listen to popular music. You will be overwhelmed by all of the cool, fun, and informative sites you will find.

Audacity
Audacity is a free, easy-to-use audio editor and recorder for Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux and other operating systems. You can use Audacity to:
  • Record live audio.
  • Convert tapes and records into digital recordings or CDs.
  • Edit Ogg Vorbis, MP3, WAV or AIFF sound files.
  • Cut, copy, splice or mix sounds together.
  • Change the speed or pitch of a recording

Bringing Composers into the Classroom through Skype
This is a great idea, where 2 music educators teamed up to bring composers into their concerts using Skype. What an inspiriational idea to hear from the mind and mouth of the creator the piece of music before getting to perform it for the audience. I would love to use this idea in one of our Red Oak High School Concerts.

Using Skype to Connect with other Music Students
This article gives some great ideas on how to connect with other classrooms through Skype. I would like to use this as a recruiting tool. I could have my Varsity and Junior Varsity singers talk to and encourage the incoming middle school students to be involved in vocal music at the high school level.
